Rescue Youth Programs
(Families Under Urban & Social Attack, Inc.)

Families Under Urban & Social Attack, Inc. (FUUSA) is a Texas chartered, non-profit corporation that provides violence prevention and alcohol and drug prevention/intervention services for adults and at-risk youth in Houston’s Third Ward and Acres Home Area.

Rescue Mentor Program

The RESCUE Mentor program matches youth with positive adult role models in the community. The program serves youth between the ages of 8 to 17 and is designed to assist youth in the following areas:

  • Strengthen self-esteem
  • Improve planning skills
  • Foster interpersonal skills
  • Improve academic achievements
  • Improve family relationships

This after-school program is available to youth during the academic year, Monday through Friday. Youth are transported from school to an environment that is safe, secure, nurturing, and challenging. An eight-week summer program is also conducted Monday through Friday.

The Mentoring Program Coordinator and/or staff supervise all activities. The goal is to reinforce the students’ confidence and protective skills to help them bounce back from adversity and avoid involvement in negative behavior.

Community Service Projects such as community clean ups, assisting food banks, organizing food drives, delivering meals to elderly/disabled, doing chores for disabled, and hospital visitation, etc. are an integral part of the Mentor program.

Mentors must be 21 years of age or older, have a genuine interest and concern for youth and be willing to commit at least one year to supervised involvement with a youth mentee. Mentors must be drug free and have no history of criminal or child abuse involvement. A criminal and child abuse background check is completed on all mentor applicants.

Six hours of training is given prior to assuming mentor responsibilities and monthly support sessions are provided thereafter.

Juvenile Delinquency Program

The RESCUE Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Program is designed to reduce the incidence of juvenile delinquent activities among at-risk youth by providing primary prevention strategies. Services are provided in the following areas:

  • substance abuse
  • premature sexual behavior prevention
  • violence prevention
  • cultural enrichment/recreational activities
  • parent workshops
  • Adolescent Outpatient Treatment Program

This program is designed to assist youth participants in altering their behavior and achieve maximum potential through counseling (individual/group), and support groups such as educational and skills enhancement, case management and community resource referral.

Violence Prevention Program

The RESCUE Violence Prevention Program is a 10-week course designed to reduce the incidence among youth (both male and female). Participants learn to resolve conflicts using nonviolence techniques through social environmental and competence skills training components.
