What is an Ombudsman?
An Ombudsman is an independent and impartial investigator for the public's complaints about the administration of government.
What is the Office of the Independent Ombudsman for the Texas Youth Commission?
The Office of the Independent Ombudsman (OIO) for TYC is a state agency available to help support transparent, open, and responsive services by TYC. It was established during the 80th Texas Legislative Session in Senate Bill 103. The Office can investigate and resolve complaints in a fair and balanced way.
What does the Ombudsman specifically do?
The OIO receives complaints and conducts investigations and works to resolve disputes. The Office is the "last resort" which means complainants should engage the services of the Ombudsman only after trying to have issues addressed through the TYC grievance process and staff.
How do I make a complaint with the Ombudsman?
You can write a letter to the OIO, email, or call at any time.
